Nokia will update its existing Windows Phone 8 devices with new camera capabilities in Q3
This is good news for Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 owners who might be looking on enviously at the Lumia 925’s imaging capabilities. Granted, it’s not going to enable PureView visuals (except on the Lumia 920, of course) but it does introduce a bunch of useful photo and video editing capabilities which are well-integrated and easy to use.
This is going to be more of a big deal for some phones than others. The Lumia 720, for example, has been well received by reviewers (including us) for being an affordable handset with a fantastic camera, which we thought was second-only to the Lumia 920’s PureView itself.
Obviously Lumia 920 owners are going to get a lot of benefit out of the update, although no doubt a fair few will still be turning green at the Lumia 925’s slinky new outer casing and understandably so.
Nokia hasn’t specified exactly when in Q3 we might expect to see the Amber update roll out and it was implied that the patch will include other changes too, but those details are of course all being kept closely under wraps for now.
We’ll be on the lookout for more reports of Nokia Lumia Amber between July and August so stay tuned for details as they emerge. If you can't wait that long, we'll be taking in-depth look at Nokia Smart Camera's features as seen on the Lumia 925 later today, so check back soon for that too.
