Acer launches world's first 8.1-inch Windows 8 tablet

Acer launches world's first 8.1-inch Windows 8 tablet
Acer has launched an 8-inch Windows 8 based tablet Iconia W3 that it claimed "brings desktop into your hands."

Taiwan's computing major Acer announced it was working on launching a slew of new devices that will "reinvent the way computing is looked at" in PCs, tablets and notebooks.

A day ahead of Asia's biggest IT show Computex 2013, the company launched a 8.1-inchWindows 8 based tablet Iconia W3 that it claimed "brings desktop into your hands."

Speaking on the occasion, Acer chairman and CEO JT Wang said: "Users are becoming smarter and don't need to keep buying new devices. PC makers should understand this and explore beyond our own limits. Acer is prepared to collaborate with industry leaders to create innovative products with better user experience. We want to be category leaders in tablets and smartphones."

The other major launch was Acer's brand new Liquid S1 smartphone with 5.7-inch HD display and 88 degree wide angle camera, a quad-core processor, Float app, Float call.

The company also reiterated the launch schedule of the much-awaited Aspire R7 hybrid notebook with flip screen and touch screen.which had already been announced by the company.

Iconia W3 offers full HD display with 1280x800p resolution, 8-hour battery life, has a keypad hidden inside and is quite light-weight. It is based on Intel processor that was yet to be announced and has Microsoft Home and Office bundled. Not just office productivity, the device also boasts good gaming prowess.

It also launched the second generation of its flagship Aspire S7 notebook that will have patented dual torque hinge for the touch operation, with Gorrila glass construction, 33% longer battery life, WQ HD 560 by 1200pixel display that can be Acer's equivalent of Apple's retina display, 60 frames per second video rendering for better picture quality.

The other launches included the smaller Aspire S3 with similar specs and wakes up in one second, and the slimmer Aspire V Series which was earlier known as R Class.
